Lalla Martin is a force to be reckoned with in the music scene. Born and raised in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, the 29 year old songstress has been weaving together the threads of traditional African rhythms and modern house music to create a unique sound that’s taking the world by storm. Using an example of her release with a Uk duo, Mon Tsunami last year, the track “Thel’umoya wakho” is a fusion of traditional mbira music from Zimbabwe with Uk dance music. The song has been greatly received and has had airplays both locally abroad, receiving airplay on the BBC radio 1 in the UK. Lalla’s music is a vibrant fusion of the past and the present, blending ancestral beats with cutting-edge production.
Since her career took off in 2015, Lalla has been on a mission to push the boundaries of Africa music, collaborating with international producers and artists from Italy, Austria, France, USA, and the UK. Her 2021 EP, “I AM LALLA,” released under khox entertainment was a masterpiece featuring legends like Eddy Kenzo from Uganda, Jah Seed, Stoan Seate, and Speedy from South Africa’s Bongo Muffin group. The EP’s success paved way for further collaborations with talented artists like Ntosh Gazi from South Africa and the Masaka kids from Uganda.
Lalla’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and innovation. Coming from the high density suburbs of Zimbabwe, she does not allow this to be a limitation. After refining her craft at the Zimbabwe College of Music in 2018, she emerged as a confident and creative force, ready to take on the world. With her music, Lalla aims to inspire a new generation of African artists to experiment, innovate, and push the boundaries of what seems impossible.
