El Payo (Oupa Joseph Makwela) is a South African producer and DJ active in electronic music since the early 2000s. After starting out as a DJ, he gradually moved into production, developing a distinctive and personal sound.
His compositions are characterized by detailed rhythmic work and carefully crafted sound textures, blending electronic music with jazz influences. This approach creates a sound that is both structured and organic, where instrumental elements integrate naturally into electronic production.
Kaphonic Records discovered El Payo through his productions and chose to support his work by sharing his music with a wider audience. His musical identity fits naturally within the artistic direction of the label.
His EP Chasseurs d’Horizon marks his first release on Kaphonic Records. Mostly instrumental, the project highlights this fusion of electronic music and jazz influences, including Summer Breeze, featuring Lalla Martin and Timothé Petter.
