ENCHANTED WATER | EP by Motsek and Ines Tola
Ines Tola is a singer, songwriter, and composer from Guadeloupe who has developed a unique and enchanting sound—a captivating fusion of Gwoka, Soul, and Blues. Her lyrics, melodies, and rhythms are organic, weaving lush, dreamlike soundscapes that reflect both her roots and artistic vision.
Ines took her first steps on the professional stage after meeting director Mohamed Rouabhi, who invited her to perform in his play Malcolm X. This opportunity allowed her to bring her Creole language to audiences across France and internationally, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Senegal, and Brazil. The show also marked her debut performances in Guadeloupe at L’Archipel and the Centre des Arts.
She went on to collaborate with the theatre company Les Acharnés (Requiem Opus 61, Vive la France) while also exploring vocal traditions through Negro spirituals with the Gospel Dream choir and contemporary gospel with Gospel R&B Line.
Initially rooted in Creole nu-soul, her musical repertoire evolved through key encounters—first with DJ Phonie, then with Exxòs—who introduced her to kako mizik, a style centered around the ka drum. These influences culminated in her debut album, Bwabwa, released in 2008.
Since then, the ka drum has remained central to Ines Tola’s sound. Her passion for live performance has taken her to stages across Paris and the Caribbean, including Canal Opus, Divan du Monde, Baiser Salé, Chapelle des Lombards, New Morning, and Bik Kréyol.
